Fairview Musical Moments

A couple of weeks back, I guess I was feeling wild because I ended up out longer than I wanted on two nights during the school week. And unfortunately, I could see both instances repeating themselves since both interactions were just up the road from my apartment in Fairview, and both included my first times at recurring weeknight musical performances.

The first was a Tuesday at Turgua Brewing. I didn’t have any plans to be out raging on a Tuesday—and honestly, no real raging happened—but a friend of mine was in the neighborhood picking up a Facebook Marketplace find and texted to see if I wanted to join him for “a beer” since he’d never been. I said sure. We had four and stayed for 2.5 hours before every third Tuesday of the month at Turgua is their open Irish Jam Session. It was so relaxing to just chill out and listen to music with a distinct I’m-gonna-dance-with-her-now vibe that this might become a monthly tradition.

The second was on a Thursday. My friend Dani came over for dinner, which is a semi-regular tradition we have. We also got an after-dinner drink at Turgua because the weather called for it. On our way home, we decided to bop by The Joint Next Door because both of us enjoy its brand of goofiness and hadn’t been in some time.

The Joint Next Door has a great back patio, which on that Thursday was hosting a parent-approved cover band filled with wine-drunk retirees dancing their hearts away to such notable songs as “Sitting On the Dock of the Bay “ and “Me and Bobby McGee.” Dani and I were the youngest people there by a good twenty years. When I posted several videos of the proceedings on my Instagram, a friend commented, “Are you at The Villages?” and honestly, is there higher praise?
